ADHERENCE TO ALL RELEVANT ENVIRONMENTAL LAWS
The Shipbuilding and Repair Development Company and our TTSRMC stakeholders are committed to adhering to all the relevant, environmental laws and policies and the Multilateral Environmental Agreements signed on to by Trinidad and Tobago, especially the recent Paris Agreement in which Trinidad and Tobago has joined with the rest of the world in curbing the rate of global temperature increases. We are fortunate to have on-board qualified environmental practitioners, who are able to guide us and our stakeholders.
COASTAL BEACH CLEANUP CAMPAIGNS
In 2019, the SRDC staff working alongside other local NGOs participated in two coastal beach cleanup exercises in La Brea, South-western Trinidad. This event included encouraging young children to learn and respect the environment. It is hoped these young future leaders would have a better appreciation and understanding of the importance of protecting the marine environment and ecosystem. We intend to continue this annual exercise and to document the collection of various coastal waste in a scientific manner.
ENCOURAGE THE USE OF GREEN ALTERNATIVE ENERGY
In 2019, the TTSRMC awarded Mr. Shivan Singh BSc (Hons.) graduate from the University of the West-Indies, St. Augustine campus a study scholarship and full Personnel Protective Equipment to become a Photovoltaic Installer (PV) Level 1 at SBCS Global Learning Institute. Solar energy is the cleanest and most abundant renewable energy source available and Trinidad and Tobago has some of the richest solar resources in the world. Solar technologies can harness this energy for a variety of uses, including generating electricity, providing light or a comfortable interior environment, and heating water for domestic, commercial, industrial or shipyard use.
HELPING NGO'S THROUGHOUT THE CARIBBEAN
In 2018, the TTSRMC supported FUNDAJUVENTUD which was incorporated in 2002, as a registered Non Governmental Organization in Tucupita, Delta Amarcuro State, Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela with the noble intention to support young adolescent persons. Together with our TTSRMC stakeholder NCN Enterprises Limited and several other stakeholders, we were able to donate much needed school supplies, including book bags, calculators, copy books, pens, various craft and art supplies and several USB pocket drives.
MENTORING YOUNG ADULTS TO JOIN THE MARITIME INDUSTRY
Since 2009, the TTSRMC supported by our local and foreign stakeholders have successfully held mentoring programmes geared towards encouraging young adults to learn more about the maritime shipbuilding and repair industries. As a direct result of these efforts, some of the persons have attended and graduated from the University of Trinidad and Tobago (UTT) Maritime Campus and joined our industry.
PARTNERSHIP WITH LEADING UNIVERSITIES
The Signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between University of West-Indies-Arthur Lok Jack Global School of Business (UWI-ALGSB) and the T&T Shipbuilding & Repair Maritime Cluster was executed on the 25th May, 2016. Today, this mutual beneficial arrangement continues with regular student visits to shipyards and partnering in joint international bids in various environmental / maritime related programmes, to improve maritime efficiency.

We gave an award and full P.P.E. to Shivan Singh, BSc.(Hons.) Electrical Engineering student to further his electrical studies in Photovoltaic Systems, in 2019.
TTSRMC will continue these awards, this calendar year.
GREEN SCREEN - THE ENVIRONMENTAL FILM FESTIVAL
The TTSRMC was pleased to sponsor schools attending the Green Screen - Environmental Film Festival 2016. Screenings was held at the Digicel IMAX Theater, Port of Spain, Trinidad and Tobago, during the period 1-12th November, 2016.
LA BREA POLICE YOUTH CLUB
In 2021, we contributed towards the establishment of youth club activities at New Jersey, La Brea. Again, with the kind assistance and financial generosity of TTSRMC stakeholders, wanting to encourage young future leaders, our contribution assisted in the outfitting of their new Club House.
